Mercado Pago launches Conta Negocio to unify banking for Brazilian SMEs

Mercado Pago has launched Conta Negocio, a new business account aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises in Brazil, marking a significant expansion of the fintech's push into SME banking and reinforcing Mercado Libre's vertical ecosystem strategy.

Announced on 9 April 2026, Conta Negocio unifies the core financial and operational tools that Brazilian SMEs need into a single platform, combining payments, credit, cash management and access to the wider Mercado Libre marketplace. The product is aimed at businesses with monthly revenues above R$10,000 and sits alongside Mercado Pago's existing free MEI account for micro-entrepreneurs.

The account brings together payment acceptance across Point card terminals, Tap on Phone, payment links, QR code and Pix, with funds from sales available within seconds, 24 hours a day, at no additional cost. Balances earn returns through CDBs yielding 120% of CDI, and account holders can access working capital and instalment loans of up to 24 months, with credit decisions based on transaction history inside the platform rather than traditional bank underwriting. Loans of up to R$300,000 are available.

Conta Negocio also provides free management software covering invoicing, inventory control, cash flow and sales reporting, and plugs directly into Mercado Livre Negocios, the group's B2B wholesale arm, where account holders can unlock discounts of up to 40% on inventory purchases, extended payment terms, campaign coupons and centralised employee purchase controls.

"Our ecosystem represents one of our greatest strengths in our value proposition," said Daniel Davanco, Senior Director of SMEs at Mercado Pago Brazil. "We've maintained a relationship spanning over 20 years with this SME segment. Today, many entrepreneurs depend on selling through Mercado Libre, and we deliver this comprehensive ecosystem of financial services."

The launch reinforces Mercado Libre's strategy of binding marketplace, logistics, digital banking and credit into a single vertical stack. According to the company, more than 9 million SMEs used Mercado Pago services in the previous year, and 9 out of 10 businesses on the platform receive a credit offer within three months of onboarding.

Conta Negocio is launching first in Brazil and is expected to roll out to other Latin American markets in due course, as Mercado Pago continues to position itself as a full-stack financial services provider for the region's SME economy.
